Youth Ministry Description

Are you passionate about applying the Gospel of Jesus Christ and His Holy Word to relational-discipleship? Do you have a heart for the next generation of youth? If so, please read on! We are looking for two paid, youth ministry interns, one male and one female.
 

LWEC is an evangelical, Chinese heritage church. Most students are 2nd generation Chinese Americans, who have grown up with Chinese culture and language at home, but American culture and English language at school. Overflow Youth Group has approximately 70 students from 6th-12th grade.

Intern(s) will work with the Youth Pastor to grow personally in doctrine, leadership, and ministry skills while shepherding students, through relational discipleship and Bible study. This is not a cookie-cutter role - intern(s) will partner with leadership to discern how to best match their specific skills, passions, and desire for growth with the ministry’s needs.


Job Description

 

  • Core Ministry Time: Fridays evenings, Sunday mornings, and early afternoons.

  • Ministry: Depending on gifts and callings, the intern will be able to apply their known strengths and be challenged to grow in areas of weakness.
  • Ministry opportunities include:
    • Teaching: share Gospel-centered messages on Fridays. Lead/teach Bible studies or topics on Sundays. Share reflections during prayer gatherings.

    • Worship: Help lead, train, and mentor the youth worship team.

    • Planning: Participate in the planning process for different events, curriculums, and/or philosophy of ministry.

    • Small Groups Leading: Friday small groups, discipleship small groups, bible study groups, accountability groups, service groups, etc.

    • Community Formation: Create and lead intentional spaces and activities for fostering belonging.

    • Personal-Relational Ministry: Provide intentional discipleship and mentorship for individual students.

 

Qualifications

​

  • Born-again Christian, with an active, personal relationship with God.

  • Commitment to the centrality of the Gospel and the primacy of Scripture

  • Experience working in an Asian-American context is preferable, but not required.
    • If no experience in this area, then humility, and willingness to learn in a semi-cross-cultural ministry.

  • Completed or pursuing a ministerial degree or seriously discerning the call to ministry.
